ANCIENT RELICS “PRINT EMBROIDERY” T-SHIRT [INDIGO DYED]

This "Print Embroidery" technique is one that I've been trying to figure out for what feels like forever. It is exactly what it says, a print made to replicate embroidery.

After endless tests, samples, and failure after failure to get this exactly as I envisioned it, we were finally able to find the perfect method and formula to make this thing come to life.

There's a lot to unpack on this graphic conceptually. Firstly, "L.L. Original Soundtrack" is a direction I've been motivated by since relaunching LL in July of 2024. The idea is that me or my brand do not need to be in the spotlight. We are not actors. We can play the background and be instrumental - hence the word "soundtrack" - while playing a vital role in realizing our landscape in design and apparel.

"Ancient Relics For Future Beings" is a line I came up with in 2019 after doing 2 large paintings of Frank Ocean for an exhibit. I completed the first painting, and then repainted it in a less developed way - almost like a caveman had done it. I then threw the canvas in a dryer to beat it up, and when it was finished I felt like I had created an ancient relic of modern subject matter. This idea of what we create today becoming artifacts for the future has been an integral piece of thinking for the restraint I've been practicing in my outputs with LL.

Both of these themes will play a large role in what's to come from LL in the future.
