"YOUTHFULNESS" - SOLEM CERAMICS GRATITUDE SERIES
NOTE: The purchase of this item gets you 1 cup entitled, "Youthfulness" from The Gratitude Series, which consists of 5 cups in total. To purchase the entire collection you need to add each of them to your cart separately.
Made in collaboration with my friend, Tamara Alissa (Solem Ceramics), this collection of cups honours the 5 aspects of my existence that I give thanks to every day - My Spirit, My Elders, My Youthfulness, Time (Past, Present, and Future), and My Body.
Each cup was wheel thrown with white stoneware and fired by Tamara before being illustrated on with cobalt underglaze by myself, and finally glazed and re-fired to reveal their final state.
"Thank you, youthfulness, for energizing and reminding me".
On January 18th, 2021, I had a reiki session performed from a distance by my friend Samantha Jade. During the session, I felt myself being carried through a field on a makeshift stretcher, and as I looked to my right, I saw 3 young children running next to me. The visual of these children brought me calm from the seriousness and uncertainty of where I was, and reminded me momentarily of joy.
This cup was created with the freedom of how I drew as a child while drawing my favourite things. Among the obvious iconic elements, is a 5 room maze that consists of 2 rooms stacked next to a row of 3 rooms. The maze has a total of 16 doors which are meant to be passed through only once, using only one line. This was a maze I obsessed over as a child, and the solution was the key to me changing my childhood. "Youthfulness" is a reminder of joy and the energy that it provides.
